Made in the USA Marketplace – TOMORROW!!!

Wickliffe fifth graders are participating in an annual tradition called the Made in the USA Marketplace.  The fifth grade classes have formed seventeen business teams to create, produce, market and sell items at the Marketplace, which will be held in the Red Gym at lunch recess on Thursday, December 15th.

This is an exciting undertaking for the fifth graders.  They are currently hard at work manufacturing their products. Each business obtained a loan of up to $50 to purchase the necessary materials to produce their good.  This money will be repaid, with a small amount of interest, at the conclusion of the Marketplace.  Any profits beyond the loan and interest amount will be used to help cover the cost of the fifth grade participation in the Messages From the Earth program at Stratford Ecological Center. Fifth graders will travel to Stratford five times this year throughout the season.

The products will be available for sale to Wickliffe students from 1st – 4th grade. To help students prepare to shop, the fifth graders will place a prototype and print advertisement in the showcase outside Room 114 and film brief commercials that teachers can share with their classes.  We hope this will promote enthusiasm and excitement on the part of our customers!

Please be aware of this opportunity for your child to purchase student-made items on December 15th.  No item will be priced over $2.00, and all prices will be in $0.25 increments so quarters and dollar bills are recommended.  Although each business will have some change, they will not be equipped to make change for tens and twenties.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact a fifth grade teacher at the email address listed below.  We welcome your feedback and appreciate any support you can offer for this exciting project.   If all goes well, your child will one day move from consumer to producer at the Made in the USA Marketplace!
