WICKLIFFE PTO – YEAR IN REVIEW 2015-16

The Wickliffe PTO has completed a dynamic year supporting the work of our devoted, creative, energetic, and committed staff and community. We wanted to give you a sense of the range and depth of activities that are funded, sponsored, and supported by the PTO through the generous donation of your time, talents, and resources. Thank you for your engagement and involvement!

ARTS

  • Informal Affair – Community-wide fundraiser complete with gallery hop of art produced by each classroom at Wickliffe which is then auctioned off to help fund many educational experiences
  • Arts On Campus – Funded Week-long Arts experience at Wickliffe (every student attends one day)
  • Golden Star Choir – provided t-shirts
  • Square One Art

ATHLETICS

  • Intramurals – five intramural sports over the course of the year
  • Field Day – half-day outdoor event for each student with 11 activities

ENVIRONMENT

  • Enhancements in Indoor Learning Environment (Quotes, Pictures, Why Wickliffe Signs, Ten Principles Signs)
  • Supported Outdoor Learning Environment Spring Protocol and Clean up

LITERACY

  • Funded staff to attend Reading Recovery Conference
  • Author Visit – helped fund lodging and meals

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Funded two staff members to NIPEN (National Institute of the Progressive Educators Network)
  • Hosted NIPEN at Wickliffe this year

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Funded and maintained PTO website as information clearinghouse
  • Directory produced and distributed for free
  • Opened board meetings and invited parents to attend (First Monday of every month at 6:30 pm)

COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • PTO Membership open to all parents (suggested donation of $20 helps fund all the events we support)
  • Fall Festival and Spring Celebration (both free events open to the entire community)
  • Restaurant Nights
  • Building Talent Data Base
  • Outreach – Funded family in need

PARENT EDUCATION

  • Held four general PTO Meetings – Class Size, Learning Environment, Creativity, the Stand
  • Hosted “Progressive 101” at the NIPEN meetings for parents, staff, and administrators in the district
  • Involved parents in Wickliffe team of the District Facilities Master Building Plan

STUDENT ENRICHMENT

  • Helped fund Field Trips (for those who could not pay)
  • Outdoor and Indoor Walking Club and Indoor Recess Options (Go Noodle, Art, Library Reading Time)
  • After School Discovery
  • Saturday experiences – Global Cardboard Challenge, Math Camp for 2nd and 3rd Graders

TEACHER SUPPORT

  • Teacher Grants – provided a grant to each teacher and specialist to use at their discretion (purchased supplies for their classrooms including books, art supplies, publications, rugs, other items to enhance the learning environment)
  • Hot and Cold Water Cooler installed in Teacher Work Room
  • Teacher Appreciation Efforts (Annual Luncheon, Snacks, Water bottles, treats, etc)
  • School Supply Sale (organized sale to supply items needed in classroom)
  • Contributed to work of the Building Leadership Teams – particularly those on Indoor Learning, Outdoor Learning, and the Arts

CLASSROOM SUPPORT

  • Block Campaign – initiated last year with sets for five classrooms purchased, more to be added at end of this school year
  • Grade-level Grants – Kindergarten Bring Farm to You Program, 2nd and 3rd Grade Trip to Nutcracker, 4th Grade Social Studies Trips, 5th Grade Trips to Stratford (buses for 5 trips) and 5th Grade Graduation – grants partially implemented this year, to be made more available next year

SAFETY

  • Funded Safety Officer on regular rotation throughout year to calm and ease traffic flow at beginning and end of school day
