Welcome to Wickliffe

Hi friends,

What an exciting time it is at Wickliffe! The floors look like a fresh skating rink right after the Zamboni sweeps through. It won’t be that way for long, soon our kiddos will leave their mark, as they should! Welcome to a new slate, new pencils, and a new year!

I wanted to share a few words about changes at Wickliffe Progressive. There will be many changes that impact our community, some that many of you may have already noticed.

Staff

There will be many new faces at Wickliffe. Last year we said good bye to several of our experienced, dynamic teachers & staff who were rooted in progressive education. There were 7 days of interviews to find their replacements, and our own teachers hand picked their new colleagues. Every new teacher came here seeking our progressive program. The new staff members in our community will bring new energy & interests that will make for a great year. I can’t wait to leverage their ideas & enthusiasm. So if you’re a veteran, be sure to welcome them to our progressive community.

Testing

Many of you may remember last fall when our children & teachers waded through several new & old required evaluations. It was stressful, and many of us noticed the increased classroom time dedicated to these tests. The district recognized the impact and made changes, so that our children & teachers can spend more time learning & less time evaluating. For Wickliffe, this means more time exploring & experiencing information, allowing teachers the opportunity for authentic, emergent learning. I can’t tell you how excited I am about that change!

Please join us on the first day of school for coffee in the courtyard outside the school library. We will gather at 8:15 to celebrate the end of summer, the end of “back-to-school” stress, and share the contagious excitement for the start of a new school year!
