BE CREATIVE – After School Discovery Classes

Does your young one need a creative outlet?  Wickliffe PTO has the After School Discovery art classes that can help.

Glass Fusing (K-2) and Glass Cutting and Fusing (3-5)

glassartGlass Fusing (K-2) and Glass Cutting & Fusing 3rd – 5th Grade are taught by Lauren Grace Slevin: Students can choose from a wide selection of art glass, to design and create pieces that will be kiln fused. They will also have access to basic glass tools. Each class will have a topic (nature, self-portrait, gift giving, etc.), but students are free to create outside of that. Finished pieces will be returned through Affirming Group Critique. Depending on each student’s level of interest, they will complete between 15 and 25 fused glass items.

Creating Comics

comicsDo you like comics? Learn the basics of creating a comic book, graphic novel, or cartoon from local comic creator John Novak. We will study how to design your own characters, and tell a compelling story through words and pictures. John Novak has colored 10 all-ages graphic novels, including the award-winning “Giants Beware!”. You can see his work at http://dragonsbeware.com/ and http://www.novakarts.com/

Drama: Big Friendly Giant (BFG)

BFGDrama: Big Friendly Giant is taught by Candace Mazur-Darman: If you love Roald Dahl, then this is the play for you!  We will become the characters: Sophie, BFG, Giants, Queen of England and more.  We will learn the parts and perform the show on Nov 14th for families and friends.

Picassos Art for K-1 and Picassos Mixed Media Art for 2-5

picassoPicassos Art is for K – 1st Grades, and will be taught by Emily with Picassos: With a focus on the creative process; this class includes a little bit of everything. From drawing to painting we’ll create a different work of art each week. All supplies included.

Picassos Mixed Media Art is for 2nd – 5th Grades, and will be taught by Katernine with  Picassos: Our goal is to focus on the creative process. Our instructors are artists and have the ability to adapt to each individual skill level.  In this class we’ll explore different materials and how to use unlikely things together to create texture and depth in our works of art. Collage, watercolors, ink, and pastels are just some of the things we’ll use. All supplies included.
