Welcome to 2016! While the weather has been mild for Columbus, there are still weeks of winter to go! We are making preparations to provide the kids with multiple indoor recess opportunities, but we need volunteers to make it happen.Each station requires a degree of parental oversight – some more than others. These stations are new to all of us, so feel free to experience, evaluate, and make suggestions as to how to improve them.
Walking Club/Exercise Loop – Halls – 3 volunteers
We’re bringing this favorite inside! Our interior laps will now include stairs and fitness stations including jumping jacks, high knees and/or sit-ups.
Movement Space/GoNoodle – Red Gym – 1 volunteer
This is a dance-along! The volunteer is the computer deejay and runs the show. You pick the video from the GoNoodle online program, and the video is projected on the gym wall.
Open Art – Art Room – 1 volunteer
Unstructured art with donated, school and PTO-provided art supplies! The kids take the lead in deciding what they want to do. Volunteers are welcome to come with ideas for art projects, but no creative expertise is necessary.
Game Room/LEGO’s – Room 108 – 1 volunteer
Unplugged! We’ll put out a call for card and board games and LEGO building sets we can borrow – no electronics allowed.
Library Quiet Reading – Library – 1 volunteer
This great option will give kids the chance to chill with their favorite book either from the shelves or from home. Those volunteers with interest can work on their storytelling skills or serve as willing listeners for students perfecting their reading skills.
Students will sign up in advance to attend a station.
Volunteers Instructions:
On your way in to the school, you can pick up your student list from Denise in the office and proceed to your station. We have asked that you report to the school at 10:55 AM in order to have your station ready to receive students at 11:05 AM. Students will be able to participate in their chosen activity until 11:45 AM. At that point they need to assist in clean up and proceed back to their classroom (if it is an inside recess day) or to the blacktop (if it is an outdoor recess day). Indoor recess alternative will be offered through the month of March whether it is an INSIDE or OUTSIDE recess day for the rest of the students.
