Weekly Update: Tons of Stuff Going On this Spring

After School Discovery – Classes Still Open

asd_logoAfter School Discovery is a PTO after school enrichment program that runs through the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each session we have a calendar full of fun, educational, and recreational programs designed for our students. Classes vary by grades and interests and are priced reasonably so that our students can discover something new!  Spring Class Registration is OPEN.

register-nowClasses are open to any and all Wickliffe students that fall into the right age category for that class.  Each session we try to offer something new while keeping some of our popular classes throughout the year.  This winter, we have some new classes: Spring Critter Science, Comic Book Creation, and Secret Service and some popular classes from previous years: Emerging Artist, LEGO Club, Sewing, Chess Club, and Basketball.

Lunchtime Walking Club is on the way!

Beginning Wednesday April 15th, every M-W-F at 11-12 lunch recess the kids will be given the opportunity to put on their walking shoes and earn some bling! The kids loved this in the fall and are anxious to get back out there. When they come out before and/or after eating lunch, they grab their WC card from their class’s pouch, grab a friend and start walking! For each trip around the field, they get a check mark on their card. For every four laps, they’ve walked a mile and can pick out a colorful foot pendant for their WC chain necklace that they earned with their first mile. The kids are really proud of their accomplishments, and their brains and body are ready for the second half of the day! This is such a great program that is sponsored by the Wickliffe PTO.

We need volunteers to make it happen! It’s easy set-up and really enjoyable. Please consider spending your mid-day with the kids. Sign up with a friend! Please contact Karen Robertson at [email protected] or 614-486-3053 if you are interested and would like to know more.

Wickliffe Wellness: Walking Wednesdays

wc3HAPPY SPRING WICKLIFFE WALKERS!!

Spring break is over and hopefully spring is actually arriving in Upper Arlington. With that, Walking Wednesdays are finally back! If you are not familiar with WW it’s very easy! Over the next week your child should be receiving a Walking Passport. Please put your name on the back and attach it to their backpack. Each Wednesday through May 27 all you have to do is walk or bike to school and have your passport punched in one of three locations. 1. the corner of Wickliffe and Cimmaron 2. by the back door or 3. by the front door of the school. I realize that some of you live outside the walking distance of the school. There are lots of families that drop their kiddos at Fancyburg and walk from there so please come and join us. If you have another location that you like to walk from, let us know so we can have a group coming from another direction. Walking Wednesdays are part of an effort to promote health and wellness but it is a great way to help out with cutting down on traffic around the school and improving safety which has been an issue lately. So let’s take off our winter boots and lace up our sneakers and get walking on Wednesdays!

To make sure that WW runs smoothly I need some volunteers each week to cover the three locations and punch cards. It is just a short 15 min from 8:00 to 8:15. Please sign up here if you would like to help out.
